VISUAL ARTS AWARDS
Louise Déry holds a PhD in art history and has been the director of the Galerie de l'UQAM (Université du Québec à Montréal) since 1997. She is a lecturer in museum studies and art history and associate professor for École des arts visuels et médiatiques, UQAM. Previously, she was curator of contemporary art at the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, Québec City and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, and director of the Musée régional de Rimouski. She has curated exhibitions of artists including Manon De Pauw, Rober Racine, Sarkis, Nancy Spero, Dominique Blain, Raphaëlle de Groot, and the philosopher Jean-Luc Nancy, amongst others. Exhibitions include: Métamorphoses (2008), AKBank Sanat, Istanbul; David Altmejd: The Index (2007), 52nd Venice Biennale; and Le corps, la langue, les mots, la peau. Artistes contemporains du Québec (1999), Centre d'art contemporain Santa Mònica, Barcelona. She is now curating an exhibition on Shary Boyle (Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto, Galerie de l'UQAM, Montréal and Contemporary Art Gallery, Vancouver, 2010-2011) and on Michael Snow ( Le Fresnoy, France, 2011). Déry has received the first Hnatyshyn Foundation award for curatorial excellence (2007).
