Acting (English Theatre)
Camyar is a multi award winning practitioner of theatre, film, television and radio. As a writer, his work ranges from the co-creation of the political satire, The Adventures of Ali and Ali published by Talonbooks and the historical musical, Asylum of the Universe, published by the Canadian Theatre Review to writing librettos for a children's opera, Elijahs Kite which received a command performance for the Governor General. Some recent directing credits include an outdoor site-specific production, Bollywood Wedding Alcan Award recipient, Adrift On The Nile, and Mother Courage And Her Children which was his University of British Columbia MFA thesis. As an actor he has worked for professional companies and festivals across Canada as well as appearing in numerous television and film productions beginning with shows such as the Beachcombers in the 80s and in recent years, Da Vincis Inquest .
Camyar is the founder of Neworld Theatre, one of Canada's acclaimed independent theatre companies. He has also worked as an Arts broadcaster, educator and served on several panels and committees. He took a three year hiatus from the professional Arts circuit to become the Executive Director of the BC branch of Leave Out Violence (LOVE) BC, a Media Arts based social profit organization that works with youth. Currently, he is the Arts Coordinator for Richmond, BC, a City that values the importance of the Arts as a key component of a healthy and vibrant community.
