DEVELOPING ARTISTS GRANTS
Davida Monk is a dance artist, choreographer and teacher. She began her career with Le Groupe de la Place Royale of Ottawa and was instrumental in the development of Le Groupe Dance Lab. Monk’s works have been seen in cities across Canada and in Europe. Summer 2011 Monk finished work on The Land Quartet, a three-year creative project with four dancers and video, with the generous support of the Alberta Creative Development Initiative of the Canada Council and the Alberta Foundation for the Arts. In 2010, 2011 and 2012 Monk performed Le Recours aux forêts, choreographed by Serge Bennathan, in Calgary, Regina, Vancouver. Monk was a featured soloist on the 2012 Prairie Dance Circuit tour in her work Under cover of Darkness commissioned by the Land's End Chamber Ensemble. Monk collaborated with Marc Boivin of Montreal on the creation, performance and presentation of The Strangest Torment. Her next collaboration begins in September 2011 with Battery Opera’s Lee Su-Feh of Vancouver. Monk is associate artist with projet bk, Associate Professor Emeritus of Dance (University of Calgary) the Artistic Director of the Calgary dance company M-Body: mind and music in motion, and Artistic Director of Dancers’ Studio West.
